I've always been someone who prefers summer all year round. Perhaps the foundation for this was laid on that pleasantly warm and sunny September day in 1983 when I was born.
Even during my youth I mostly spent time outdoors playing sports - preferably on the tennis court.
Playing tennis even took me across the Atlantic to South Carolina in the USA (back then, I traveled by plane), where I completed a six-month internship as a tennis coach. That's where my wanderlust was ignited. But nothing fascinated me quite like sailing, especially after I spent my first week on a sailboat in the Mediterranean at the age of 17. Back then, the wind not only conquered the yacht's sails but also captured my heart as a future sailor.
As you can imagine, one week of sailing a year wasn't enough. I spent countless hours searching for my own boat – initially more for fun than seriously hoping for a floating home. But that changed abruptly when, at 34, I encountered "Yum Yum." I left my life in Switzerland behind, packed up my belongings, and set sail to discover the world – alone, naive, and without much experience. What can I say? "It'll all work out!" And so it did.
Since 2018, I've called the world's oceans home, letting myself be carried by the rhythm of the waves and enjoying the wind in my hair. In November 2023 – or rather, half a circumnavigation later – this adventure became even more special: I was able to enjoy it in the best company, because Dani became part of the Yum Yum crew.

From the moment I was born on May 27, 1990, I apparently couldn't wait to discover the world—or at least that's what my mom still likes to tell everyone at family gatherings. Unfortunately, I can't remember much of it myself... it was quite a few decades ago, after all.
Growing up on the shores of Lake Constance, my favorite childhood summers were spent sailing the lake with my parents and my two siblings aboard our family sailboat, Santana. Those unforgettable days on the water sparked my love for sailing and inspired me to chart my own course one day.
As beautiful as my home "s'Ländle" (officially Vorarlberg in Austria) may be, it eventually became too small for my dreams and sense of adventure. So, in September 2022, I packed my backpack and set off to explore the world. Two years, 26 countries, and countless adventures later, I met Mirko—on the other side of the world, in New Zealand. Since then, we've been inseparable.
Together, we not only sail across the world's oceans but also venture far beyond them, constantly seeking out new places and hidden corners of the planet. You'll rarely find us relaxing on a beach lounger for long. Both Mirko and I thrive on adventure, freedom, and the excitement of the unknown.
In early 2025, I finally turned a dream into a lifestyle. What began as a one-year sailing sabbatical became a permanent way of life. I realized that my work as a location-independent software developer perfectly complements my passion for exploration, allowing me to combine a fulfilling career with a life full of adventure.
Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do then by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
